Spotify

Added a feature that allows users to access friends’ activities and allow them to co-listen within the app.

Spotify is one of the largest music streaming service providers. This project is focused on the addition of a designated socials page for users to access their friend’s Spotify activities and connect with others in a more efficient way.

Overview

The Problem

People have noticed the discrepancy between the desktop and mobile versions when it comes to the social aspect of Spotify.

The Goal

Add a socials feature that would seamlessly integrate with Spotify’s already established interface.

User Interviews

004

5 participants were interviewed including both men and women ages 20-30 all with different backgrounds and occupations to understand their lifestyle.

I wanted to understand their lives and how productive they are versus how productive they want to be. Additional questions were asked to further gain insight on what products would help them achieve those goals.

Goals & Considerations

007

I performed a goals & considerations to better understand what the goals are for both the business and the users to try to lay out the foundations I need to create a product.

Mid-Fidelity Wireframes

008

The layout I created was heavily inspired by Spotify’s layouts. For example, the profile page is similar to Spotify’s main page. The reasoning behind this is to minimize the user’s learning curve since they are already used scrolling vertically and horizontally.

Since Spotify is acquired by Facebook, I created a direct link to sign up using users’ existing Facebook account for more ease.

Since each user has a personal bar code, I thought to utilize that and added an option for users to simply scan someone’s bar code and add them instantly. Spotify already had a camera search option for finding music, so I knew that Spotify already had that technology.

Features added:

  • Spotify’s navigation only had 3 tabs, so to better make use of the free real-estate, I decided to put a “socials/profile” designated button to make it easier and accessible for users to access.
  • I made sure the haptics, transitions and layout is closely similar to Spotify’s app to smoothly intergrade the new feature.
  • Profile page is a more functional version of Spotify’s current version.
